The Baby Blanket ministry held a free community event to honor 25 years of serving families in the Chisago Lakes community. (More)
What started as what we thought would be a relatively simple project has morphed into a much larger one. I guess that can be expected when dealing with an older building.
There were ceiling and wall stains from previous water leaks. Since the replacement of roofs several years ago, there has been no more leakage. Time to clean this mess up. Additionally, the floor on the lower half of the Boutique was "squishy" - not water squishy but degrading - we assumed it was the subfloor crumbling. As long as the ceiling was getting a facelift, we decided it made sense to upgrade the lighting to LED at the same time. Painting and new carpet was added to the list with the direction of the Finance Council to take care of all of it - not do some now, some in a couple years, more in a couple more years, etc.
We began May 28, 2020 by moving into temporary spaces using faith formation classrooms. We closed the Boutique at 12:30 on Thursday and reopened on Saturday at 9:30 - all due to the great work of many volunteers. They were awesome!!!
So what began as a facelift for the Boutique is ending with an updated look and also (hopefully) solved the mystery of where the flooding came from two summers ago in the lower storage level and classrooms.
A million thanks go to the volunteers who have made this all possible, the Finance Council for approving the project, and especially Vicki and Dick LaMotte for managing the project, doing so much work themselves, and choosing such great sub-contractors!
